Since 1981, Sundance Institute has supported thousands of independent film and theatre artists with its artist development programs and its annual Sundance Film Festival. The Sundance Institute Archives is dedicated to preserving and facilitating access to the work of these independent film and theatre artists and the material that documents their artistic processes in the creation of this work. Before director Destin Daniel Cretton’s feature-length narrative Short Term 12 took home the Grand Jury and Audience Awards at SXSW earlier this year, he premiered the short of the same title at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival, where he won the Jury Prize for Short Filmmaking.  Cretton returned to Sundance in 2012 with I Am Not a Hipster.Cretton’s feature-length Short Term 12 opens in select cities on August 23.Check out more about the film, watch the trailer, and see a video that captures Destin’s trademark exuberance as he shares his experience working with troubled youth at a group home and how it inspired Short Term 12 here.Photos by Kristin Murphy and Chelsea Lauren
