Sundance Institute Archives & collection

Founded in 1981, Sundance Institute is a nonprofit organization that discovers and supports independent film, media, and theatre artists from the U.S. and around the world.

Sundance Institute helps artists tell their stories—and the Sundance Institute Archives & Collection works to protect and preserve them. We are passionate about preserving and sharing the stories of our supported artists and the history of the organization for generations to come. Nearly 10 years before directing True Detective, Cary Fukunaga won an Honorable Mention Short Filmmaking Award during the 2005 Sundance Film Festival for Victoria Para Chino.  He attended the Sundance Institute’s Directors Lab with Sin Nombre in 2006 and then premiered Sin Nombre during the 2009 Festival, winning both the Directing Award and Excellence in Cinematography Award.

Fukunaga returns to the 2015 Festival, serving on the U.S. Dramatic Jury and he also spoke last night during the Festival’s An Artist at the Table event.
